I would like a schematic stating how to use an LED display and a small keypad so that is I pressed "3" my display would red "3"

Hello all ... my 10 year old garage door opener is losing range, i have to be almost on top of the door before it opens, I was told that the electronics are getting weak. My question is do electronics get WEAK over time or was this guy just brushing me off,secondly with minimal info does anyone have any ideas why........ it has a new battery.. Thank you
