Dee Electronics is pleased to announce the latest addition to this line of electronic circuit protection products. The 12 V DC version is designed for SCADA/RTU applications – providing optimal protection for both 12 V DC switch-mode power supplies and solar/battery based systems. The most unique feature is the ability to remotely reset the device from outside an enclosure. This can be accomplished via a simple momentary push button or from an output of an RTU or PLC controller. In RTU/SCADA applications, equipment is primarily located in remote unpopulated locations. The remote reset functionality reduces the need for field engineers to travel to sites to troubleshoot equipment – reducing the overall cost of equipment maintenance and downtime.

Specifications

It is available in fixed current ratings from 1 A to 10 A, and provides selective load protection – ensuring exclusive disconnection of the current path in the event of an overload or short circuit in the field load device without compromising the DC 12 V power source (i.e. battery drain). This limits the short circuit current to 1.3 to 1.8 times rated current and disconnects 100 ms after the fault has been detected. Inrush peaks are tolerated from capacitive loads of more than 20,000 μF, and is designed with an auxiliary output to provide individual alarm capabilities for critical process flow applications. This space-saving device has a width of only 12.5 mm and 80 mm in height and depth. Its low power consumption makes it ideally suited for battery-buffered DC 12 V applications, specifically in the solar industry. It is Din rail ready and can be mounted either individually or in a group side-by-side with a simplistic bus bar system for +12 V DC and ground. Also utilizes the same screw terminals as its 24 V DC counterpart which allows up to a 10 mm² conductor to be wired directly to the device, this ensures reliable and safe wiring connections.

Approvals

The product family carries the UL1604 and UL508 approval for use in Class I, Div. 2, Hazardous Location and General Automation applications, respectively.

10 × 30 mm Photovoltaic Fuses for Solar Panel Applications

The Solar Protection Fuse series has been specifically designed for photovoltaic (PV) systems. This family of midget fuses can safely protect PV modules and their conductors from reverse over current conditions despite the associated challenges of DC power.

As PV systems have grown in size, so have the corresponding voltage requirements. This increase in system voltage has typically been intended to minimize power loss associated with long conductor runs. With design voltages growing upwards of 1000VDC, standard midget fuses simply cannot handle this power. However, this series is UL Recognized to safely interrupt circuits up to this demanding voltage level.

Features

Specifically designed for photovoltaic (PV) systems/strings

Interrupt low over-currents associated with faulted PV string arrays (reverse current, mult-array faults)

Fact Acing Ceramic

From 1 to 20 Amps

1000 Volts AC/DC

RoHS Compliant

UL Recognized

Undervoltage Protection Product

We are pleased to announce a new 2-pole appliance switch with built-in undervoltage trip release. The new series prevents uncontrolled restarts of an appliance by monitoring and tripping under conditions such as extreme voltage drop, or when the supply voltage is interrupted. Even when the supply voltage returns in full, the machine or equipment does not automatically restart, but must be manually switched on again. The undervoltage trip release action and manual restart feature protect against harmful situations. Using such a device can prevent harmful situations for operators, as well as others in the surrounding work area.

The switch, with pushbutton or rocker actuation, is a circuit breaker with undervoltage protection, and without overload protection. The pushbutton version is available in both snap-in and screw-on (flange) mounting, while the rocker version is designed for snap-in mounting. IP rated protection covers are offered to prevent ingress of water spray and dust in machinery that operates in harsh environments such as construction sites, woodworking, metal, or masonry shops. The covers can be supplied factory mounted with the breaker or separately for client mounting.

Applications for undervoltage protection include products such as landscaping equipment, wood chippers, floor cleaning and sanding devices, electrical tools like circular saws, band saws, grinding machines and drills. Other application examples include fuel pumps, coffee-milling devices, fruit juice squeezing machines and fruit juice centrifuges.

This undervoltage circuit breaker configuration provides a corresponding part number according to switching and mounting features, and supply voltage. The rated switching utilization category is AC-1 16A / AC-3 14.5A @ 115/120 and 230/240 VAC. The switch is approved according to IEC 60947-4-1, UL 508, CSA 22.2 No.14-95.

Introducing GE Arc Vault™ Protection System

The GE Arc Vault protection system is an entirely new approach to arc flash protection. It can contain an arc flash within 8ms – even with the compartment doors open. And thanks to is innovative design, it provides better equipment protection, and more productivity with less downtime than traditional “big-box” arc resistant switchgear.

Revolutionary System Will Now Be Available to Retrofit Non-GE Low Voltage Equipment

The system will now be offered in two configurations.

The first configuration will be a retrofit to existing low voltage equipment, such as MCCs, switchboards, or switchgear. This version will use an activation switch in conjunction with a trip unit as a detection system.

Both systems will incorporate a containment dome, which will work with the detection system to provide fast protection from arc flash hazards.

When the detection system senses an arc flash, the containment dome is triggered, and the main breaker is called to trip.

A secondary arc fault is created within the containment dome, which extinguishes the initial arc flash in less than one-half cycle, or eight milliseconds, of the initial event.

The secondary arc flash continues, protected in the containment dome, until the main breaker clears and de-energizes the entire system.

GE Announces Earlier Delivery and Expanded Offering of Arc Vault™ Protection System to Meet Client’s Needs

The GE Arc Vault protection system will contain an arc fault in less than 8ms with the circuit breaker compartment doors open during operation and maintenance. The incident energy, in accordance with IEEE 1584 at 24″ from the arc event, will be less than 1.2 cal/cm², which is equivalent to HRC0, for a 480V HRG system with available fault currents up to 100 kA.

The GE Arc Vault Protection System reduces building construction costs because it does not require exhaust chimneys or plenums to direct the arc flash energy outside of the building, when compared to traditional arc resistant switchgear.

If an arc flash incident occurs during normal operation and maintenance, the GE Arc Vault Protection System can be operational again within a working day, assuming appropriate replacement parts are available, which improves your overall system uptime when compared to traditional arc resistant switchgear.

The GE Arc Vault protection system reduces energy released by 63% compared to a bolted fault that would occur with a crowbar system. The energy reduction will lower the stress on other system components, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and bus bar construction, and improve your overall system uptime when compared to traditional arc resistant switchgear.

The retrofit configuration of the GE Arc Vault Protection System can be retrofit onto existing low voltage equipment, such as MCCs, switchboards, and switchgear, and can be retrofit without having to replace the existing low voltage equipment line-up.

When Arc Vault is included as an option in AKD-20 low voltage switchgear, the GE AKD-20 AR low-voltage switchgear meets the ANSI / IEEE C37.20.7 standard when it is included within a system that contains an upstream medium voltage controllable device.

The GE Arc Vault™ System Offers Significant Benefits Compared to Existing Products and Systems:

The ability to offer arc flash protection with doors and compartments open

Reduced operation energy

Reduced construction costs

The ability to retrofit existing switchgear
