<h2>Profile Housings for Mounting PCBs</h2>
<p>The UM-PRO profile housings, or PCB trays, enable short assembly times with greater design flexibility for engineers looking to protect their PCB designs.  Made of halogen-free plastic, the UM-PRO can be used in applications up to 100 degrees Celsius, well above the 60 degrees Celsius required by UL.</p>
<p>The new design represents advancements over two existing products, the standard UM profile and the UM Modular product.  The UM-PRO’s snap-in assembly eliminates additional hardware and reduces assembly time.  It features a single profile cut to specific customer-required lengths, limiting the components needed to achieve a complete solution.</p>
<p>The profile supports three separate slots for mounting a PCB.  The top slot allows mounting components nearly on the edge of the PCB.  The PCB cover can be centered or positioned strategically over critical components, increasing the protection flexibility.  The flat design supports the construction of flat electronic components and their assembly on standard DIN rail or directly on the panel.</p>
<p>The UM-PRO is available in three tray widths (72, 108 and 122 mm).  Standard Phoenix Contact MINI COMBICON connectors can be used to network adjacent devices, and busing options are available.  Accessories include end caps, additional foot elements and PE contacts.</p>

<h2>How WirelessHART® Uses Industrial Wireless Technology to Work with HART Protocol in Your Sensor Network</h2>
<p>You&#8217;re probably already familiar with HART protocol since it&#8217;s been used for more than 20 years in the comission, calibration, and installation of instrumentation to a process.  And today, more than 30 million HART devices are installed, but did you know about 90 percent of these devices aren&#8217;t being used to their fullest data-gathering potential becuase HART data is not being communicated to the control room?</p>
<p>That&#8217;s where WirelessHART comes in.  This technology is part of the HART7, which makes the HART protocol more usable, flexible and cost-effective.  It does this by networking HART devices to the wireless sensor network, and reducing deployment time and complexity using industrial wireless connectivity.</p>
<p>To make this sensor network work, you&#8217;ll need a gateway to pull all of that HART data in from the field, back into the control room.  Our WirelessHART gateway supports up to 250 WirelessHART end devices, and gives you flexible installation options, web-based management, and wire and wireless backhaul capabilities.  And it works with MODBUS TCP and HART UDP protocols.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re a process industry professional using or considering using a WirelessHART network, then you need a gateway device to communicate and convert information from your management system to HART devices in the field.  HART7, the newest version of the HART standard, makes this possible using wireless technology instead of, or in addition to, the traditional 4-20 mA current.  By using WirelessHART, your existing wiring to a DCS (Distributed Control System) stays intact while also taking advantage of HART protocol capabilities for a wireless network.</p>
<p>All WirelessHART networks need a gateway to communicate and convert information from the WirelessHART network to another network medium.  Phoenix Contact’s new WirelessHART® Gateway makes your job easier with its already integrated 802.11b/g WLAN transceiver.  When you use both Ethernet and WLAN interfaces, you can also make redundant backhaul connections or allow mobile worker access.  This converted data is then interfaced to an AMS (Asset Management System) that is typically used to maintain field devices.  Unlike other gateways on the market, it features integrated Ethernet, WLAN, and WirelessHART network interfaces.  This new gateway mounts right on the DIN rail and is compatible with previous HART standards (to HART 5), so whether you&#8217;re retrofitting or creating a new network, all of your devices will communicate seamlessly.  The rail-mount gateway can increase the reliability and flexibility of an existing HART network.</p>
<p>Process industry professionals can use the new gateway to retrofit existing HART networks or to lower installation cost of new netwoks.</p>
<p>To retrofit an existing HART installation, WirelessHART adapters are used.  These adapters allow the 4-20 mA wire from the field instrumentation to remain installed while the adapter provides the HART data over the WirelessHART network.</p>
<p>For new installations, WirelessHART Instruments can be used.  These are often battery-powered and provide information over the wireless network.  This accessibility of HART data from remote instruments provides more process details and reduces maintenance cycles by creating a more efficient process.</p>
<p>The 45 mm-wide RAD-WHG/WLAN-XD connects up to 250 WirelessHART field devices, converting HART data to Modbus TCP or HART UDP for easy integration into almost any host system.  The integrated WLAN can serve as the backhaul connection, allowing the gateway to be installed in the field closer to the monitored devices.  This allows the user to create a “clustered” network topology, effectively creating several smaller WirelessHART networks with a wireless connection to the host system.</p>
<p>To maintain a secure connection, the gateway uses the 802.11i (WPA2) standard with 128-bit AES encryption to protect the WLAN data.  The WLAN transceiver can also be disabled, and the host connection made via the wired Ethernet port.</p>
<p>All programming and diagnostics can be accessed via an embedded web server.  The RAD-WHG/WLAN-XD can also be programmed using a HART handheld programmer.</p>
<p>Approximately 30 million devices around the world use the Highway Addressable Remote Transducer (HART) protocol in process applications, but the vast majority of these devices and their data are stranded due to the high cost of cabling.  HART7, the most recent revision of the HART standard, added a wireless option within the HART protocol, increasing the usability and extending the range of HART applications.</p>

<p>Schurter is excited to announce that the piezo switch PSE EX has attained approval according to ATEX class II 2 G Ex ib IIB T4.  The new rating enables the switch to be utilized in potentially explosive facilities above ground.  Such environments can be found in oil/gas production systems, in the petrochemistry industry, as well as in paint and varnish mixing facilities.  The protection level of the PSE EX permits its application in areas where an explosive atmosphere can arise from a mix of air and gases, vapors, or mists.  Preparations for extending the approval to include dust-Ex applications are underway.</p>
<p>The standard design is available for a mounting diameter of 16mm.  Switching action is normally open.  Voltage and current maximums are 24 VDC/VAC and 40 mA, respectively.  The housing is offered in both aluminium and stainless steel.  Color variations are available with the aluminium version.  Lettering is also possible.  The PSE EX is equipped with standard pin terminals; additional mounting diameters and connection options are available with sufficient order quantities.  The switches, for Ex applications, are labeled with the type of approval and an identification number.  In accordance with the ATEX guidelines, an installation manual is provided with each PSE EX shipment.</p>

<p>The first SolarSpec™ Junction Box from Molex is available for sale to global manufacturers of mono- and poly-crystalline (silicon) photovoltaic (PV) solar modules.  Installed by the manufacturer directly on to the back of every PV panel produced, junction boxes serve as the interface between the conductor ribbons on the panel and the DC input and output cables.</p>
<p>Solar junction boxes contain bypass diodes to protect the PV panel from reverse current during hours of darkness, if the panels are in shade or if covered by debris (e.g. leaves).  The SolarSpec Junction Box contains these diodes together with the DC cable connections in the &#8220;removable&#8221; top cover of the housing, thereby facilitating easy field repair or replacement in the event of damage or wear.</p>
<p>The SolarSpec Junction Box Assembly can be attached to the PV solar panel using robotic pick-and-place machines.  Exclusively designed spring terminals to connect the base unit directly to the PV ribbon conductors, and terminals with optional Solder Charge Technology™ facilitate high-speed assembly and eliminate the need for manual intervention.  An automated approach to production removes any process variation and risk of assembly errors, whilst reducing costs associated with manual labor at the same time.  Double-sided adhesive tape can also significantly reduce assembly cycles, since silicone curing time is not necessary before the panel can be further handled in production.</p>
<p>Molex is currently developing the next generation SolarSpec Junction Box specifically designed for thin-film (amorphous silicon (a-Si), cadmium telluride (CdTe) and copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) ) panel construction.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h1>Woodhead® Safety Lamp for High-Intensity Discharge Fixtures</h1>
<p>Molex&#8217;s Safety Lamp for high-bay fixtures is the electrical industry’s first safety lamp to meet the requirements for an open rated fixture (Type-O), the new Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA2007), and the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR1040.30) revised in 2008.  The high-intensity discharge (HID) lamp includes a unique self-extinguishing feature (Type T) that will permanently disable the lamp after just a few minutes of operation once the glass envelope is broken to ensure operator and public safety, drastically reducing the risk of injury from UV exposure.  The lamp is ideal for temporary lighting in harsh environments such as construction and maintenance sites that require the high performance of metal halide lamps.</p>
<p>Molex is developing a pulse-start metal-halide lamp to meet the requirements for an open-rated fixture that permanently disables the lamp once the glass envelope is broken.  Molex will be the only manufacturer to offer a lamp meeting NEC 2008 construction requirements, the Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA 2007) and the Code of Federal Regulations (21CFR 1040.30).  Beginning Q4 2010, Molex will provide these self-extinguishing high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps as a standard product for new high-bay lights with an open cage or guard design.</p>
<p>Molex offers safety high-bay lights for use in low-mount applications, such as construction sites and material staging areas.  High-bay lights typically use metal halide bulbs which provide more intense light than most other light sources.  Potential damage can occur to the lights from factors including flying debris, poor mounting and use in locations with large volumes of moving materials.  HID lamps often continue to operate when cracked or broken, resulting in emissions of harmful levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation.  Molex designed the high-bay safety lamp to disable when the glass envelope is broken or cracked, protecting workers from injury due to UV radiation exposure.</p>

<p>The Very High Density Metric &#8216;H&#8217; Series (VHDM® H-Series) connector system is designed for applications that require very high interconnect density and high-speed signal integrity.  VHDM H-Series enables an installed base to perform at 6.25 Gbps, enabling system upgrades without costly architecture redesigns.  With an identical mating interface and envelope, the VHDM H-Series is fully backwards compatible with existing VHDM slots.  Designers can use VHDM H-Series to extend the life of existing platforms, reduce development costs and speed higher performance systems to market.</p>
<p>The signal portion of the VHDM H-Series connector system consists of modules in increments of 10 columns or 25 columns in either 6 rows or 8 rows.  The daughter card connector consists of a metal stiffener that combines signal wafers, power modules and guidance modules to make one continuous connector that can be ordered with one custom part number.  The maximum length of a single stiffener is 300mm (~12 inches).  The power contacts can handle 10.0A of current per blade, efficiently delivering up to 120.0A per 25.00mm (.984&#8243;) of board edge with multiple mating levels for hot plug applications.  Metal guide pins and key slots provide excellent guidance for large PCBs and eliminate the possibility of plugging a daughter card into the wrong slot.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Tyco Electronics announces the release of SFP+ active direct-attach copper cable assemblies &#8212; high-speed, cost-effective alternatives to fiber optic transceivers and MPO cables in 10Gb Ethernet, 8GB Fibre Channel and InfiniBand applications.  This active design offers signal amplification and equalization in cable assemblies with low power consumption of 500mW per cable end.  Active cables also incorporate Rx LOS and Tx Disable functionality.  Tyco Electronics offers these cables in standard lengths from 0.5 through 15 meters.</p>
<p>The release of SFP+ active copper cable assemblies supplements Tyco Electronics&#8217; existing passive direct-attach copper cable assembly product offering.  All SFP+ cable assemblies meet the industry MSA specification for signal integrity performance.  Both passive and active cables are available in wire gages from 24AWG through 30AWG and incorporate a 360-degree cable braid-crimp termination designed to suppress EMI leakage and provide superior cable strain relief.</p>
<p>Other features include a pull-to-release retractable pin latch and insert-molded pull tab, which support belly-to-belly applications and enable the highest possible port density.  All SFP+ cables are built with Madison Cable brand 10G TurboTwin parallel pair cable.</p>
<p>SFP+ cable product applications include switches, networking equipment and enterprise storage.</p>
